More news.
When one beams these beams manually, the problem goes away (and the beam is
correctly identified as not being cross staff).
I would recommend, then, that someone who knows auto-beam-engraver.cc
better than I take a look at how/why its behavior would be different than
beam-engraver.cc with respect to these context changes.
