You will need to create a new font file, and then use MergeFont to put them
together.
begingroup will not do it.
If you look at the work done in commit
15f4f4c7c1d0e8c2f904981586145f478a31b65c
you'll see what I did to separate flags into their own sub-font.
In commit 6aa85858a5a60256a77dd16e7be44192b523a8f2 you'll see where I
separated feta-noteheads to provide space for more shape-note heads.
