When will you add a simple regtest? Normally, once someone pushes a patch without a regtest, nobody will think about a regtest any more, and we'll run into the same problems you experienced yourself with the tuning stuff (where we don't have a regtest, so the "make check" didn't show any problems, but a "make doc" spectacularly failed).
So, please don't push patches unless you also have the regtest done. Writing a regtest is your responsibility - after all, you wrote the code, you know best what it is supposed to do, and for you it is the least amount of work, since you already have some kind of test case.
