Comment #8 on issue 1723 by [email protected]: beam fails to extend over rest, intermittently
http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=1723

Ok, some sleuthing. The last example I posted is actually quite instructive. It shows that it is hit&miss for every single occurence: the left side has some beamings right where the right side hasn't, and vice versa.

The long slanted beam over multiple rests also is instructive (posted in some other report, but I fail to find the issue): the rests get staggered, so there is collision avoidance going on, and _if_ the beam is too short, it ends at the last stem, not reaching over _any_ of the rests.

Also the problem seems to appear exclusively at the _end_ of beams. If adding stemlets fixes it, it would seem to be an interaction between non-stems and beaming.
