First bad commit was 96f03c8 "Standardizes X extents of beams across beam
calculations." for issue 1986.
Another, more useful, workaround
\layout {\context
\Voice
\consists "Dot_column_engraver" }
avoids this problem, which indicates that the DotColumn confuses the beam
engraving.
