Thanks Reinhold, that's a useful clarification. Unfortunately the check for texi2pdf failing is based on the return code from subprocess.Popen, which fails for other reasons as described earlier before it gets around to issuing a return code. However, a simple fix based on Mike's suggestion (not recorded here, but essentially using the defaults and not calling subprocess.Popen if executing on windows32 or mingw32) works fine. Let's wait a while to see if anyone can point to an implemention of texi2pdf for Windows, but if none is forthcoming this looks like our best option.
