Interestingly, this was discussed before; i've discovered some old drafts of mine concerning it. Also, i see that my work on rewriting alignment interface would fit nicely with this stuff; i see now how this should be achieved. I can make a patch, but i'm busy; some bounty would increase my motivation ;) If at least 2 people will pledge $5 each, i'll write a patch in the next few days - who's interested?
