Thanks for spending the time to check.  In that case, I withdraw my other 
suggestion.  The alignment of the notes in the lower staff should be left as it 
is so that that upper fermata remains aligned with the lower fermata.

One thing I will note for future readers is that if a fermata is wider than a 
note head, the approach taken in the hymnal consumes less space.
