Hello Paul!
Since TeX Live 2026 does not compile I had time to GCC 15 on intel, x86_64,
hardware with old Mac OS X 10.6.8, Snow Leopard: the symlinks are built!

So it seems to a PowerPC problem? I can try to prove that on my old PowerBook,
which is dual-boot: Leopard, Mac OS X 10.5.8, and Tiger, Mac OS X 10.4.11.
Without MacPorts support.
