error in "cut"

hi there,

i think i've found an error in "cut"

i've tried following :

~/> echo 1 2 3 4 5 | cut -d" " -f2-
2 3 4 5
~/> echo 1 | cut -d" " -f2-
1

i think that's wrong....
needn't it be an empty string ? "" ?

this error accoured in 
" GNU bash, version 1.14.7(1) "
" cut (GNU textutils) 2.0a david ihnat, david mackenzie, jim meyering  1999 fsf "
precompiled in "redhatlinux 6.2", german version
