In summary, I don't think it is necessary to adjust the GNU Coding Standards for such details. I have presented enough arguments for the clang-format people to listen.
Not to mention, we don't really care what clang-format does. If anything, GNU indent should be modified to follow this practise (if not already the case), since that is our prefered formatter.
