I wrote earlier today to comment that I was not happy about no longer being able to use the construct:
tar cvpf- * | (cd $dest ; tar xpf- ) I downloaded the source to look at reverting to the previous behaviour. But the README told me that the current 1.23 version defaults to stdin/stdout. It still changes the command line which more or less violates the rule of "least surprise", but I can live with it. One of the disadvantages of installing from binary packages is that a lot of the documentation goes astray. Sorry to have bothered you, Resume normal viewing..... Thanks for your work on this and other useful tools.
