Can you fix Texinfo to support them?
Yes, we really want to do this. And also eliminate the restrictions on
node names, which is pretty much the same issue. This means a notable
change to Info format and some careful coding and testing for as much
backward compatibility as we can do this.
The Info readers will also have to change :(.
Hopefully I'll be able to work on this (and many other long-postponed
features) for the release after the upcoming bug-fix release.
