This was considered as well.  The problem with this is that you'd like 
the Info reader to display `colon' as `:', otherwise it would confuse 
users, I think.  (They type "i foo::bar RET", but the echo area says 
"Found FOOcoloncolonBAR in Class Index".)  This complicates the display 
routines of the reader.

Also, we will need to invent a ``translation'' like that for every 
special character we now disallow in menus and indices.
