No, that isn't it.  Removing the "." doesn't help.  

It seems that Info doesn't actually mind "." in @xref's -- it doesn't
have problems recognizing:

   *Note Figure 1: fig1.3.

(works in Emacs as well).

Hmm, I think the menu entries for @listoffloats are wrong, i.e.

     * Figure 1: Functions with ...:          fig1.3.

should have been:

     * Figure 1: fig1.3.    Functions with ...

At least if they're supposed to follow the same format as normal menu
items.  And it works when I try the latter.
