It seems that Info doesn't actually mind "." in @xref's -- it doesn't
    have problems recognizing:

I always get the examples confused, but I know there are some cases
where the period causes trouble.  Maybe in dir entries or foreign
xrefs.  Anyway ...

         * Figure 1: fig1.3.    Functions with ...
    At least if they're supposed to follow the same format as normal menu

Yes, they certainly are.  Thanks very much for debugging it :).  Somehow
this was working at one point; I wonder what happened.  Ah well ...

Will work on a fix.
