Putting this into the init script seems to be like a layering violation -- after
all the gsmd is supposed to talk to the modem. Can't we put this into a
detaching method inside our machine plugin?

Making this depend on 574 since the problem obviously roots in timing / response
mapping issues.

Yes these are GTA01Bv4.
When the device enumerates the current draw goes to 490 ma which is fine.
There are other charge anomolies. For example, on initial charge (battery in
cutoff and inserted) the charge current (initial 40ma) will drop after several
hours to zero but the bat will not in fact be charged. It will be charged enough
to get the device to enumerate, but it will then need several hours at 490ma for
the battery to reach a full charge.
Additionally, it appears the battery is float charging which is not good. The
battery should be allowed to drift down to 3.9V or less and then get a top off
charge to bring it back. This is probably just software that can be refined as
the PM matures.

Tried on 2.6.22.5-moko11, unloading g_ether does not give any oops.
However, re-loading it does not bring the network up. The interfaces are up,
but ping does not respond. I get these messages on the host machine:

I make a test on GTA01bv4 as follows:
1. Cut off power for GSM. So GSM module can't work.
2. Power on GTA01, then enter into x-windows and power off GTA01.
3. Power supply displays 11.4 mV is draining.
4. I use alsactl to control amplifier enter "Amp Mode", before power off.
5. This time, power supply displays 0 mV.
So the LM4857 will drain the power.

I tried contacting T-Mobile, but was not able to get to much information, but I
was able to get this much:
"..., please note that in order for a phone to work with the Hotspots @Home
service it is also required to have a dual-mode handset that is enabled to make
UMA calls. The current data devices that have Wi-Fi capability are only single
mode and will not allow a seamless connection between GSM and UMA."
So it looks like one of the requierments is to be runing GSM and Wi-Fi at the
same time. Perhapes someone can contact T-Mobile as a developer to get the rest
of the requierments.

This did also not work in previous versions, as far as I have tested them. It
was mentioned on IRC by someone that he got it to work after loading/compiling
some extra modules.
To my understanding, this never worked :-). Do you have evidence that it ever
did?

I just tested ssh'ing into my neo1973 at 192.168.0.202 over usbnet with a fresh
build I just did today (August 31). I'm not sure what the right way to identify
my tree state is but anyway as far as I know the current tree is good.
