 The answer can be found at

 {{{
 echo "W\n" > /var/spool/at/trigger
 }}}

 (This bug is the only thing that comes up when feeding the error message
 from 2008.12 to Google, and references to it feature prominently in other
 searches, so I thought it's useful to document things here as well)

Comment:

 I believe this bug has vanished as part of the SDIO stack change in
 2.6.28. Om2008.12 still uses the old kernel. I don't know what the
 migration plan to
 2.6.28 looks like for Om2008.12+.

Comment(by Mike Kalagan):

 It seems WiFi is on by default. It's merely impractical without easy way
 to configure or turn it off.

 When calling "/etc/rc6.d/K21ompower stop", then the process "ompower" is
 not stopped, terminated or killed (as would be expected), but another
 "ompower" process is launched. Thus, the shutdown sequence does not work
 in a clean fashion.

 When shutting down Om2008.12, the script "/etc/rc6.d/K20dbus-1 stop" is
 executed before the script "/etc/rc6.d/K22connman stop" is executed.
 However, stopping connman apparently requires dbus-1, and thus stopping
 connman fails. Thus, the shutdown sequence does not work
  in a clean fashion.
