Some OSes are either full source or binary, in my case binary. You can change limits or you may not abe able to. As I said the workaround for me was to set the shell to bash instead of the sh; reason, ulimit is available in bash and releated shells and sh uses limit and unlimit no ulimit depending on the OS. Was that taking into account when Apache 2.1/2.2 was being written?
