I am a little worried that nobody reads at the other end of the pipe. What if the logger writes a huge amount of data to its stderr? Wouldn't it get blocked? What about using the stdout of the main process (should be /dev/null) for the logger? I modified your patch to do this. A quick test shows that it works.
