I downloaded the sources (httpd-2.2.3) instead of checking them out so I couldn't easily do a diff. The included code adds an option - AuthLDAPFollowReferrals - that can be set to either on or off (defaults to on.) I've been using the changed code for a couple weeks now with no problems.
