I certainly agree it is "uninformative", but the site administrator can get the information they need from other locations in the distribution. And anyone seeing this page who is not a site administrator will not be helped by any amount of information we put there. I'm curious about the "malformed" bit. Is there a spec saying that there needs to be a trailing newline on html files? In any case, I don't see how it is negatively affecting anybody. As far as the content, we have tried every reasonable alternative for the content of this page, including having text written by professional tech writers. We still get more confused (and often abusive) messages than we care to deal with. If you have suggestions, I'd be pleased to hear them. I don't believe that omitting the page entirely is an improvement, since that gives even less information to admins, gets hidden by MSIE's "friendly" error messages, and doesn't provide an example of a page that can be easily replaced with real content. Finally, since this was originally a Ubuntu bug, I should point out that Ubuntu is free to put whatever they want in the default index.html. Many third-party distributors replace that page with their own info. But we'd request that any contact information point towards the distributor, and not apache. -- Configure bugmail: http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
