This tells httpd not to trust the Host: header for its internal interpretation of the host name. The error is in safari quote If you go to http://[2001:5c0:9744:0:230:84ff:fe31:9886]/test/ (browsable empty directory) in firefox/gecko the server identifies itself correctly with: Apache/2.2.3 (Ubuntu) Server at 2001:5c0:9744:0:230:84ff:fe31:9886 Port 80 If you go to the same url in Safari you get: Apache/2.2.3 (Ubuntu) Server at 2001:5c0:9744:0:230:84ff:fe31 Port 9886 /quote Betting you dollars to donuts you found a Safari bug, and Safari is sending the wrong Host: header. Verify by capturing %{Host}i in your access log, which will report what the client told the server. Of course, if you did find a Safari bug, it will also manifest by matching to the wrong named Virtual Host. Let Safari folks know ASAP what you find out, and close this report as INVALID here if the assumption proves correct.
