Unfortunately that probably can't be answered until the exact bug is found :( 
Some bugs are sensitive to memory layout or other non-bug changes of
surrounding software.

If infinite time were available we could continue investigating, but httpd
doesn't parse the data that causes the problem whereas mod_security can (and
presumably does in your configuration).  You might try disabling mod_security
features to see if you can find a specific trigger, and update the mod_security
bug with that information.  (shrug)

This bug report may still cover a unique httpd issue, probably related to
recovering after the POST crash:
