            Bug ID: 57850
           Summary: Questions about SSLCertificateChainFile
           Product: Apache httpd-2
           Version: 2.2-HEAD
          Hardware: PC
                OS: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: major
          Priority: P2
         Component: mod_ssl
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Hi

I've some questions about SSLCertificateChainFile for versions 2.2 and 2.4.

According to the document

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_ssl.html#sslcertificatechainfile

With this directive, both certificate and CA will be sent to browser.

Questions:

1. According to my knowledge, the server only sends the certificate during the
SSL Handshake, and the browser use its CA to do the verification.

2. Is this directive dedicated to the model client authentication model ? Is it
always mandatory to load CA in config Apache for simple SSL model ? Or maybe I
only need to load certificate and private key to start Apache ?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks in advance.

Kindly regards,

Weining
