When it comes to verification, Apache by default enables OCSP, CRL, or both. To
enable the connection, every mechanism for cert verification must report a
valid status. The verification will not succeed if one of the mechanisms—such
as an unresponsive OCSP Responder—is faulty. Making these mechanisms more
programmable and allowing for an ocsp fallback would, in my opinion, be
preferable to aborting the verification. Are there appropriate mechanisms in
Apache that already make this possible? I hope that made sense. Regards.
