Bug ID: 69919
Summary: Petition to change the autoindex /icons/ path to
/apache2-icons/
Product: Apache httpd-2
Version: 2.5-HEAD
Hardware: PC
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: mod_autoindex
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
Just started porting a project over from IIS to Apache and my front page
immediately looked like crap because all the icons were missing. 30 minutes of
futzing around and I finally realized it was because out of the box, Apache2
aliases the path /icons to /usr/share/apache2/icons for use by the AutoIndex
mod.
Alas, I had named the folder for my site's icons for my front page up as icons
as well, so Apache2 was dutifully telling me that none of them existed despite
them being right there at /var/wwww/html/icons.
What this comes down to is, **it would be much nicer if apache2 didn't steal
such a generic folder name out of the box**. Simply renaming the folder
apache2-icons in /usr/share/apache and changing the alias to work with it would
save anyone who didn't develop their project originally in Apache2 some amount
of pain and hassle when setting a project up initially. I eventually got
desperate enough to do a grep -r icons * from /etc/apache2 folder in order to
figure this out, but a number of other people are going to get burnt by this
and possibly take much longer than me to figure it out.
Thanks in advance...
