Since this is not exactly custom hardware, I would really like to know
if this happens on other peoples Blade 1500 systems, too. Just play
some
audio and the machine should freeze (I'm using mpd if that makes a
difference).

Same thing here, playing an mp3 file with mplayer crashes the box.
But, if I first kill sndiod, I can then play the file with mplayer
without any crash.
