The thing I have some recollection of (though not any specifics) was some old tests espie did switching filesystems between ro and rw as an alternative to using systrace to notice writes outside the work directory. Do you remember any more details Marc? I don't think it's related to this, which unless I'm mistaken is simply building in chroot to stop the build interfering with the main OS installation.
