Ugly workarounds are ugly. DDB is a vital tool. Why not describe your
problem better so a developer might get interested and solve the
fundamental issue? 

1st step: try it on -current. beck@ has solved at least one problem
that has a bit of the same smell. But due to you lack of useful
details, I'm now typing this mail instead of doing good & fun stuff.
