Hello again bugs@, as my wording might be confusing, i wanted to improve my description about that bug report. I know it’s release time, so please don’t take this mail as a push for an answer, this is not the case, i’m not in a hurry. I’m not writing this mail from the concerned machine , so if the mail is mangled please warn me.
As i was told , i used snapshots from https://ftp.hostserver.de/archive/ to pinpoint the exact time frame when the bug appeared. I did dichotomic tests and the result is that 28-Jul-2019 snap does boot while 29-Jul-2019 one doesn’t. Failure occurs at boot blocks loading time. I can’t even see boot blocks loading in post 29-jul snaps . The laptop just reboot, making it impossible to run ddb or report any kernel panic. As HP have some particular BIOS Options regarding security (see http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02046514 , computer setup section) i’m wondering if any option makes it buggy. I tried to boot from both MBR and UEFI mode and result is the same. If any technique can be used to debug this i’ll be happy to do it. thanks for reading, regards, Jerome KASPER >>Kernel booting failure on HP probook 4520s laptop >>Category: kernel amd64 >>Environment: > System : OpenBSD 6.5 > Details : OpenBSD 6.5-current (GENERIC.MP) #151: Sun Jul 28 > 00:30:21 MDT 2019 > > [email protected]:/usr/src/sys/arch/amd64/compile/GENERIC.MP > > Architecture: OpenBSD.amd64 > Machine : amd64 >>Description: >Trying to boot on most recent snapshot than the one currently installed makes >the laptop reboot.
