btw, if you want a feel for how deterministic /usr growth is, try unpacking release sets from various different releases and see what happens over time. as you'll see it's pretty hard to predict when something will hit the tree that uses a chunk of space. (then try unpacking them _to the same dir_ and see how it grows without ongoing maintenance to remove old /usr/lib/lib*.so.* ...)
