Hello Albert,

This really belongs in the hotspot mailing list, as this may need some
VM related changes for the VM to take advantage of the extra memory.

Please see this bug for some details.
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=5061380

Note that the above RFE (Request For Enhancement) is looking for
a LAA enabled launcher but there are compatibility issues with Legacy
JNI applications which need to be considered.

IMO: its definitely a good thing to pursue this in the "OpenJDK on Windows"
project.

Hope this helps.

Kumar

Hello all,

I hope this is the right mailing list.

I am interested in getting future Sun/OpenJDK 32-bit Windows binaries
built with Large Address Aware support.

The JRockit VM is built this way, and it allows one to work with more
and larger direct NIO buffers when running on Windows Server 2003 x64,
while at the same time using the 32-bit JVM and 32-bit libraries.

It seems one can edit the PE headers using Microsoft's editbin tool,
but I don't know if this is sufficient to make the Sun/OpenJDK truly
LAA.

This might be something that Ted Neward could address with his work on
the "OpenJDK on Windows" project, if he has time?

Thoughts?

Regards,

Albert
