We got the hotspot build working with VS2008 fairly early in the
project. I don't recall who helped me, but I'm sure I got help from VM
engineers on that:

After a long list of fixes in other areas of JDK7 while trying to get
the entire product to build, there was no end in sight, and the project
was put on hold until VS2010 came along. See bug# 6523947 and the
