Well, this can be either selectable with command line switch.
Or by using different applet names for different functions,
if historically there were two utilities for printing,
with totally dissimilar comment line switches.

There should not be the only "bbox-sanctioned way to do X".
As soon as both usage patterns make sense, we can allow
users to pick what they want.
