Making busybox work under mingw or on Gnu/Hurd/Dammit strikes me as sort of 
pointless, but if somebody's interested then somebody's interested.

However, crapping all over the common code for these use cases is uncool.  
Please only merge any of this if it can be done _cleanly_.
