Vinod ________________________________ From: Krushnamegh Kunte <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, March 18, 2009 12:15:58 AM Subject: Re: [ButterflyIndia] Bushbrown Which one?? this is the Medus Brown (Orsotriaena medus), formerly the Nigger. the north indian subspecies (medus, which you photographed) has much more distinct wet and dry season forms than the sri lanka-western ghats subspecies (mandata). see the attached pictures for comparison, in which the top pictures are the northern subspecies and the lower two pictures are the southern subspecies. the small picture on top is an especially little-marked dry season form. besides the DSFs, also notice the difference in the width of the white band in the two subspecies.
