I too was puzzled by Scott's statement. I think that most know I am a long
time member of TDXS and a board member, a longer term member of the greater
Houston ham community in that I have been licensed since 1956 and lived in
Pearland from 1975 until 1988, Jamaica Beach on Galveston Island from 1988
until 2003 and in Santa Fe Since. I have known Al Brier, now N5XZ through
Ten-ten and met current president of BVARC Bill Stone through Al and Mike
Davidson of Echo Society and TDXS. Al, Mike, Bill, Ron Litt and others are
currently members of TDXS and are dues paying members of more than one club,
but I don't think any of us think that merging any of these clubs will serve
our interest. I think that all of us face the delima that scheduled meetings
are often at the same time and we must select the one that needs us the most at
the time. Several of us have served on the BOD and as officers of various
clubs that have many of the same officers. Al and
Mike are past presidents of TDXS, Bill served as DX Chairman of TDXS until he
was recruited to run for President of BVARC and won a hotly contested election
by one vote. I was asked by President of TDXS, W5UQ, Bob Hardy to replace Bill
and give up my appointed board position as Contest Chairman to Joe Staples,
W5ASP because Joe wanted the job and Bill was elected President of BVARC and
needed to resign from his office in TDXS so he could focus on BVARC. The
previous chairmen of the BVARC Field Day and MSWE resigned after the election
for reasons known to them and not me. Bill approached me to help him with his
BVARC concerns about Field Day and MSWE which Bill had been Chairing for years.
He offered to pay my dues if I would become a BVARC member and help with these
events and Chair MSWE. I agreed to do so, except for allowing him to pay my
dues, so I paid the dues and became as active as I could in BVARC while
continuing to support TDXS and TARS.
I could see that serving as an ex-officio DX chairman for both of these clubs
would take little additional effort.. I do not ask board membership or undue
influence in either BVARC or TARS over at large membership every one gets with
payment of dues. I did not know that Rick Hiller considered Ron Litt to be the
official Contest and DX Chairman for BVARC or what ever title BVARC has given
him. I tried to find out Thursday night before I made any announcement or
offer of assistance. I approached BVARC president Bill Stone, but Bill had
bigger fish to fry with the election and meeting that he was conducting
Thursday. I made my statement and invitation to lean on me by any individual
who had Contesting or or DXing that were not answered by other sources. That
offer still stands to anyone who is interested including members or officers of
any club who asks. Rick suggested that I submit any articles to the BVARC
newsletter, but I submit an article to
the TDXS Bullsheet when I have time to write one and I see no benefit to
anyone to submit the same or a paraphrased artical to multiple newsletters.
The TDXS Bullsheet is available on the TDXS reflector when the monthly
Bullsheet is released and from the TDXS web site which contains all editions of
the Bullsheet since its inception in 1970. No membership, dues payment or
other affiliation with TDXS is needed or expected. If the editort of the BVARC
newsletter wishes to copy any article of mine from the Bullsheet, he needs only
the permission of the current editor of the Bullsheet who is Alen Brier, N5XZ
and also a BVARC member. There is no active movement to combine TDXS with
BVARC or any other club at this time, although we are concerned about the
aging of membership and increasing membership. We value and appreciate the
joint meetings, joint Field Day events and other cooperative events that are
approved by both BOD. My opinion that any merging
of Clubs should be by dual memberships, of which there are several or with a
club with similar concerns, such as the 'Central Texas Contest and DX Club' (my
idea and not persued by either BOD as far as I know). My interest in BVARC is
to support it as a general club, centered on the Sugar Land area. If that does
not satisfy anyone, please contact directly at 832-630-1799 for private
discussion.

Bill and Scott:
This was an error on my part. I talked to Scott on the
way to the meeting and during the conversation Scott mentioned he would like to
run for the 2 yr position. I said I would mention it at the meeting. When I got
there I got tied up in the set up of the Chili Dinner and it slipped my mind.
I appoligize to you Scott and If at all possible Bill could we add Scott's
name to the 2 yr at large list? If that is not possible as per the
rules then I apologize to you Scott. Yes there are some people in both
clubs that are on both BOD's. But that does not mean we should join the clubs
at
the hip. TDXS is a specialty club and those that belong to it have a very
specific interest while BVARC has many general interests with in the Club.
Some of the members of both Clubs are interested in things that both Clubs do
and have a right to join both. I am a member of ECHO, BVARC, PECG, ARES, and
RACES but that does not mean that all those clubs should be one. Again Scott I
am very Sorry that your request slipped my mind.
