The only good defense against HOAs if to ask when you are looking for a
property.  If they have one, keep looking.  Almost any subdivision started
after 1975 will have one, so look for rural property or a subdivision that is
at least 40 years old and if it is fancy, older than that. Willis 'Cookie'

Subject: [BVARC] Fwd: [tdxs-list] Texas Legislature and relief from antenna
restrictions

The Michigan law, is a duplicate of the federal law.  Neither law accommodates
the ham living within an HOA. Though it would be nice to have a Texas law which
also duplicates the federal law, obtaining the "be all, end all" of antenna
laws to include contract restricted hams is going to be much harder.  And, such
an effort WILL require the ENTIRE body of the amateur radio community to unite,
as "we" did after the conclusion of WW1 when the government would have been
ecstatic to keep them trouble making amateurs off the air.
When that time comes, I hope everyone will write the letters and make the calls
early and often.  I did my part on round one of HR-4969.  And I'm ready to go
for round two.  I hope y'all are too.
Seven Three,

Since our Texas Legislature is now in session, now would be a good time for a
phone call.
31 states have produced legislation helping support FCC PRB-1 for "amateur
radio service."
If any of you live in HOA's (90%?), it would be a good time to call your State
Representative and let them know that you support legislation in Texas similar
to what Michigan just put into law.

Other links in MI website are available with the actual bill if you search
for it.

[email protected] is our representative's assistant's email.  Phone
calls are probably more effective.
When you have time, call your rep and tell them that you support legislation/
would like to see legislation passed allowing/ protecting amateur radio service
"reasonable antennas" allowed within restrictive covenant/ HOA contract areas.
