Wow.  That's sad news, but not surprising - as you said, they've been dying a 
slow death for a long time.  Yes, their decision to focus on the long-saturated 
cell phone market at the expense of a sector they controlled handily is 
inscrutable.  Sadly, their bean counters have been getting it wrong for decades.

I will always remember fondly, the Radio Shack of my youth.  I would ride my 
bicycle to the neighborhood Shack - nearly every day during summer vacation - 
and buy components for my projects to inadvertently cold-solder, and ogle all 
the radio gear I couldn't afford.

Remember the "Free Battery Club" card?  Good times.
