Just listened to Rick in an interesting QSO on 94. As he points out, the
7300 is liable to have the ICOM interface that ICOM users are accustomed to
(read: switches and knobs). It's funny in a sad way how reluctant many hams
have always been to accept new ideas. (I'm old enough to vaguely remember
the pissing and moaning over single-sideband on 75 meters.)

I have a Flex 1500 I haven't seen in months. I bought it thinking surely all
Flex radios were smart enough to come with VOX (I can't use PTT). The Flex
rep I exchanged email with agreed that adding VOX wouldn't add anything to
the 1500's cost, but excluding it provides just another point to upsell on.
Humbug!

Mike:

Sorry about your experiences with Flex. Their products and
service have improved in the last two years, but I'll say no
more on that. As for a $1,500 Flex radio to compare to the
7300, there isn't one because it's really apples and oranges.

The ICOM 7300 is supposed to go for around $1200 to $1500

Can one get a 100Watt Flex for that?

Telepost also offers a QSD process in their aftermarket panadapter for
certain radios.

Ron:

The Flex 5000 was the 1st DDC/DUC from Flex,
but the 1000, 1500, and 3000 used QSD which is
a cheaper direct sampling technology as have many
other SDRs in the last 10 years or so.

ICOM is claiming that they are the first to offer direct sampling . I
thought that most of the new Flex line already did that.

Seems that all new rigs now claim they are SDR. Whatever that is.
