I second the Nye Viking with Navy knob; I cut my cw teeth on this one about 40 
years ago.  Then I went to the Bencher paddles and  used them for a long time.

Now, my favorite is still a Bencher paddle, but it is the hex shaped one with 
magnetic returns.  Its action is very smooth and has a heavy base for those 
(like me) who are a little heavy handed!

See if someone in the area will open their shack to you and let you try out 
some of their keys... or if you can wait, go to the Dayton Hamvention next May 
and you can spend the whole weekend trying them out at all the distributor's 
tables.
