Could've sworn I read the 857d had components no longer available. Perhaps not.

So far as I can tell, the ft-857d has not been discontinued. The ft-897 was
discontinued recently and has features similar to the '857d at qrp levels.

If you're going to recommend discontinued radios, my IC-7000s serve me well.

Gerry,

Forget the Icom and look at the Yaesu ft-857d.

The faceplate is smaller and no touch screen bs to distract you. Get a
screwdriver antenna for hf and a browning for 2M and 70cm. Sweet! How old is
the truck?

I am looking for some information. I would like to put a HF/VHF radio in my
truck. I am looking at the Icom IC-7100. I would like information on other
brands and a basic review on that model as well as the IC-7100.
