I've seen a lot of the cheap wire that has a thick outer jacket that
would give the impression that it is (x) gauge wire, but the actual wire
inside is smaller than the gauge it is supposed to be.
You might try Eddie over at River Oaks Car Stereo or look at the stuff

I've been to Home Depot and Lowe's locations locally, and they don't
