They made it in a niche market of electronic components for hams and other enthusiasts. Loved those "surprise packs" resistors, caps, transistors, IC's .. it was great. I built a nice hf band transceiver from mostly RS parts (and Heathkit!). They were the first major distributor of personal PC TRS80. Had great Realistic audio equipment line competing with Pioneer, Sony, and even Marantz and others of the day. I worked there for about 4 years and had considerable Radio Shack stock. NYSE has pulled them from the exchange. I will miss having them... even of late they were a great source for fuses and cables.
