Amen bro. I wasn’t going to say anything, but I’m glad someone did. It’s too
bad about Bill’s disability, but life goes on. I’m not above asking for a
strong arm when it comes to antenna work, but I scrape together money for my
own toys. It isn’t politically correct to compare disabilities, but I can’t
help wondering where Bill would be if he had been disabled all his life as I
have. Coping with that takes a certain type of person.

I commented to a friend recently that BVARC is essentially a good ol’ boys club
run by a clique of people such as Bill. They can’t help it really; Amateur
Radio has always been seen as a bizarre niche by the general public, and I
reckon it’s pretty hard to not come to think of yourself as a breed apart. I
saw what Bill said about helping during Harvey, but I did a lot of monitoring
and what I heard paled compared to, say, 40 years ago.

OMG ! WTF ! With all of the folks still getting their houses back in
order and you are wanting people to buy you toys???.

You stated...."I would love to have a new station with radios and gear that is
under warranty for a change!"

So would I, MF...so would I.

All,

I’ve never asked anybody for money. Now I am.

I was in court for my disability claim on 10/13. The judge was AWFUL to me. He
has a reputation. Honestly, I’ve been interrogated by the FBI for days at a
time to get a security clearance back in the day. I would gladly be
interrogated by the FBI rather than this judge.

During Harvey, I manned HF and provided a liaison between Harris EOC and the
state EOC. This method of having the HF station be “stand off” from the actual
EOC and using 2m/440 between them is part of the plan we developed in NC ARES.
It gives the HF operator better room to manage the radios without being inside
the melee that is the EOC.

I have been purchasing old radios and attempting to fix them. I’m getting too
old and my health is not so good. I would love to have a new station with
radios and gear that is under warranty for a change!

I’ve selected a complete Elecraft station plus upgrades to the antennas.

When the next disaster happens and ARES goes into action, you’ll know that you
were a part of it.
