Ok I will explain I connected the solarcon antenna to the coax that runs
into my house. Gus checked the coax and it’s good. The cushcraft r5
matching box however is not working properly when you put the antenna
switch to that antenna you get no signals on any band 20 through 10. So I
decided to try other antennas with the coax such as solarcon. When I say
did not tune I mean the yaesu 450d internal antenna tuner did not tune any
of the bands not surprising since the solarcon cb antenna was in the back
yard for years. Finally I took a piece of Belden cable and cut the end to
expose the shield and the center conductor and I measured wire for the
length of a 20 meter dipole and the soldered the wires to the coax. Then I
plugged this antenna in but I got the same response where the hf rig did
not tune anywhere on 20 meters and the noise level was so low it was like
no antenna was connected. I have never been able to solder very well. At
this point I am thinking of just buying an antenna if it doesn’t work then
maybe it is the coax I hope that helps I am just having a hard time and no
I don’t have an antenna analyzer I cannot afford one at the moment I just
cannot believe that I can’t build a simple dipole
