Static charges from wind on an antenna wire are not serious in this part of the country due to the humidity. Caution is always advised and unplugging your antenna from your radio when not in use does not indicate you are a coward. A near miss from a lightning bolt is more likely to happen than a wind generated static charge. My station has the correct grounding and I *still* remove the antenna from my expensive radio.
