Theresa,

I understand your point. It does seem kind of underhanded of them to imply
they'd take care of something for you if you pay them, when you could do it for
free yourself.
Sadly, many people today ask: what's in it for me? They expect to get something
for their money. And some organizations don't do well informing folks what they
have done and continue to do for their membership. However, there is strength
in numbers. Arguing about keeping a particular portion of a band open when
you're a group of only 3 is more difficult than if you represent 3 million. Of
course that means they need to get the word out and ensure they encourage
anyone interested in that portion of the band under attack to actually use it
so when anyone checks, they can see it's in use. So members do need to know
what an organization is doing for them and what they, in turn, need to do for
the organization to succeed.

I try not to fault folks for a message as often the message is targeted to
those who've complained the loudest (and unfortunately, do the least).
Hopefully, you let them know that their message was not well received and why
you're not renewing. Being part of the silent majority is why the vocal
minority often gets their way.

My $.02, worth what you paid for it,

David-
