Ditto on the single band radio.
Belton Hamfest is October 2nd.
Black Friday is in November.
Pick your top 2 radios and go shopping.
Your antenna may be the bigger hurdle.

I'd strongly suggest staying away from a single band radio. Many good
used 10-160m +6m 100W radios out there in the $300-$700 dollar range
Watch for something like a Yaesu FT-450 or ICOM 706MKIIG on the used
market

The FCC already has my upgrade to General in the database. Much
thanks for the excellent job by the VE's who gave me the exam and
took care of the paperwork.
Now that I have more of the HF world open to me, I'm looking for
advice on an entry level (i.e. cheap) HF radio. I don't do CW, so my
initial needs will be voice and data.
My leaning is toward the MFJ-9420X, but I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
